Yes, Lone Star Payments now offers Square. Starting in October 2026, we offer Square POS, the point-of-sale and payments platform from Block, Inc., to Texas businesses, alongside Clover, LINGA and KORONA POS. Your account is opened with Square and priced by Square: per its published pricing, checked October 2026, Square Free is $0 a month, with in-person card payments at 2.6% + 15¢. We help you pick the plan and hardware, build the setup with you, train your team and stay a phone call away at (214) 838-1818. We install on-site across Dallas / Ft. Worth and set up remotely statewide.
What exactly is new at Lone Star Payments?
As of October 2026, you can get Square through Lone Star Payments. We’ll learn how your business sells, help you decide whether Square fits, and if it does, set it up with you and train your staff.
Your Square account is opened with Square and stays a Square account. Here’s what changes, and what doesn’t.
- New: Square joins the systems we recommend, set up and support, from one reader at a market booth to a full counter and kitchen.
- Same: Clover, LINGA, KORONA POS, WooPOS, SwipeSimple and Payanywhere; PAX, Dejavoo, Valor and BBPOS terminals; NMI and Authorize.net gateways; and Biller Genie.
- Same: Our dual pricing program and same day funding, which are Lone Star Payments programs, separate from Square’s own pricing and transfers.
- Same: A real person in Dallas / Ft. Worth at (214) 838-1818.
Square sets Square’s rates, approves Square accounts and sends Square payouts. If anyone, us included, promises a special Square rate, discounted Square hardware or guaranteed approval, ask to see it from Square in writing.
What is the Square POS system, and what can a small business run on it?
Square sells its software as three plans: Square Free, Square Plus and Square Premium. They launched in October 2025, replacing 18 separately priced subscriptions. Every plan includes all of Square’s point-of-sale modes, for restaurants, retail, services and beauty, and Square Banking comes with all three. Here’s the system at a glance.
| Part of Square | What it handles | Plan note | Our guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Restaurants | Menus, kitchen screens, kiosks, QR and tableside ordering | Kitchen display, kiosks, QR and tableside ordering need Plus or Premium; coursing is Premium only | Square for Restaurants |
| Retail | Variants, barcodes, stock counts, purchase orders | Low-stock alerts on every plan; purchase orders, barcode labels and multi-location stock need Plus or Premium | Square for Retail |
| Appointments | 24/7 booking site, reminders, deposits, staff calendars | Booking site and reminders on every plan; no-show fees need Plus or Premium | Square Appointments |
| Service businesses | Estimates, contracts, invoices, payments in the field | Unlimited invoices, estimates and contracts on every plan | Square for Services |
| Hardware | Readers, Terminal, Stand, Kiosk, Handheld, Register | Sold separately; Square lists options from $59, and Register is $899; Tap to Pay needs no reader | Square Hardware and Reader and Tap to Pay |
| Online | Website, online store, online ordering | No monthly fee on Square Free; your own domain needs Plus or Premium | Square Online |
| Invoices and links | Invoices, payment links, Virtual Terminal | Unlimited and recurring invoices on every plan | Square Invoices |
| Payroll and team | Payroll, timecards, scheduling, tip pooling | Paid add-on: full-service payroll $35/month + $6 per person paid, or contractor-only $6 per person paid; team tools need Plus or Premium | Square Payroll |
| Banking and loans | Checking, savings, debit card, loans | Checking through Sutton Bank with no monthly fees; loans by invitation | Square Banking and Loans |
| Marketing and loyalty | Loyalty, email and text campaigns, gift cards | Customer directory on every plan; loyalty and marketing need Plus or Premium | Square Marketing and Loyalty |
Square doesn’t sell plan features one at a time, so the one feature you can’t live without usually decides your plan. Find it in the table first, then shop for hardware.
What does Square through Lone Star Payments mean for Texas businesses?
Square is easy to sign up for on your own. What we add is the part that decides whether week one goes smoothly: the right plan, a clean build, a trained team and a cost comparison with our other options. Here’s what the combination gives you.
- No long-term lock-in: Square advertises no locked-in contracts and lists no early termination fee.
- Simple published pricing: One rate for Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, with no fee listed for chargebacks. The fee is taken from the full ticket, including tax and tip.
- Selling without new hardware: Tap to Pay on a compatible iPhone or Android phone, plus invoices, payment links and Virtual Terminal.
- Free next-business-day transfers: Square’s standard transfers cost nothing. Square’s instant and same-day transfers cost 1.95% each (Square’s published pricing, checked October 2026), so moving $2,000 instantly costs $39. Our own same day funding program doesn’t apply to Square accounts.
- In-person setup in Dallas / Ft. Worth: Square sells its own setup services, priced by quote, and its on-site list names specific cities, none of them in Texas, with travel fees possible elsewhere (checked October 2026). We install and train on-site across Dallas / Ft. Worth and set up remotely with a live specialist anywhere in Texas.
Setup trouble tends to show up on day one: a menu missing modifiers, a tax rate that doesn’t match, a tip screen nobody tested. We build and test those with you before your first real customer.
How much does Square cost in 2026?
Square’s cost has three parts: a monthly plan fee per location, a processing fee on each payment, and any hardware or add-ons. The figures below are Square’s published US pricing, checked October 2026. Square can change them, so confirm current rates with Square before you sign up.
Square sets these numbers, not us; our Square fees guide covers every published rate. Here’s the math for $20,000 a month in tapped, dipped or swiped card sales across 1,000 payments (a $20 average ticket):
- Square Free: 2.6% of $20,000 is $520, plus 15¢ × 1,000 = $150, with no plan fee: $670 a month, about 3.35% of sales.
- Square Plus: 2.5% of $20,000 is $500, plus $150, plus the $49 fee: $699 a month.
- Square Premium: 2.4% of $20,000 is $480, plus $150, plus the $149 fee: $779 a month.
- What it means: Here, Plus costs $29 a month more than Free. Its 0.1-point rate cut covers the $49 fee only at about $49,000 a month in card-present sales, so below that you’re paying for features like loyalty, email and text marketing and staff scheduling. Kitchen screens need Plus or Premium and add a per-device KDS app fee on top.
| Cost | Square Free | Square Plus | Square Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly plan fee | $0 per location | $49 per location | $149 per location |
| Tap, dip or swipe | 2.6% + 15¢ | 2.5% + 15¢ | 2.4% + 15¢ |
| Online and invoice card payments | 3.3% + 30¢ | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2.9% + 30¢ |
| Keyed-in or card on file | 3.5% + 15¢ | 3.5% + 15¢ | 3.5% + 15¢ |
| Square KDS app, per device | Not available | $30/month | $20/month |
| Square Kiosk app, per device | Not available | $50/month | $30/month |
| Square phone support | Weekdays 6 a.m.–6 p.m. PT, first 90 days | Weekdays 6 a.m.–6 p.m. PT | 24/7 |
Square says its standard rates are designed for businesses that process less than $250,000 a year, and businesses above that can ask Square whether they qualify for custom pricing. Get any custom quote from Square in writing, and we’ll compare it with our other options.
Who is Square a good fit for, and who should compare first?
Because we sell other systems, we don’t need Square to be right for everyone. Here’s our honest read. For head-to-head detail, see Square vs Clover, Square vs Toast and Square vs Stripe. Full-service restaurants comparing options can start with our restaurant POS buying checklist.
| Your business | Our take | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee shops, food trucks and quick-service counters | Strong fit | Offline payments, self-order kiosks on Plus or Premium (plus a per-device Kiosk app fee), and commission-free online ordering |
| Boutiques, gift, apparel and liquor stores | Strong fit | Item variations, barcode scanning, age-verification prompts, and an online store sharing inventory |
| Salons, barbers and spas | Strong fit | A free 24/7 booking site and reminders; no-show fees on Plus or Premium |
| Contractors and home services | Strong fit | Estimates, contracts and unlimited invoices on every plan |
| Pop-ups, markets and seasonal sellers | Strong fit | No monthly fee on Square Free, a $59 reader, or Tap to Pay on your phone |
| Full-service restaurants | Compare first | Coursing and seat management need Premium at $149 per location a month, plus a fee per kitchen screen |
| Phone- and mail-order businesses | Compare first | Keyed-in and card-on-file payments cost 3.5% + 15¢ on every plan |
| Higher-volume card businesses | Compare first | Square’s published rates are flat, though businesses over $250,000 a year can ask Square about custom pricing; our dual pricing program or another processor we carry may cost less |
| Locations with unreliable internet | Compare first | Offline payments are declined if the device doesn’t reconnect within 24 hours of the first offline payment, Tap to Pay can’t take them, and Square Handheld is Wi-Fi only |
Offline payments carry risk. Square says the seller is responsible for offline payments that expire, are declined or are disputed. If your location loses signal often, plan for it before you go live.
What does Lone Star Payments add on top of Square?
Square provides the software, the hardware, the payment processing and the account. We provide the help around it. The full process is on our Square setup and support page.
- Plan and hardware advice: The right plan or industry setup, the right devices, and which add-on apps are worth paying for.
- The build, done with you: Item library or menu, modifiers, taxes, tipping, team members and permissions.
- Hardware and online setup: Pairing devices, printers and cash drawers, and setting up your Square website or online ordering.
- Data import: Items and customer lists from your old system where Square supports it.
- Training and go-live: Staff training and go-live help, in person or remotely.
- Ongoing help: A real person at (214) 838-1818 for how-to questions, new staff and changes.
Know who does what. We don’t ship, stock, discount, finance or warranty Square hardware: you buy it from Square Shop, and Square says Square Terminal is also sold by retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy. Square backs its devices with limited warranties and 30-day returns on Square Shop orders. Rates, approvals, payouts and disputes are Square’s calls, and Square’s own support line is 1 (855) 700-6000.

Frequently asked questions
Is Lone Star Payments a Square partner or reseller?
We offer Square to Texas businesses and do the work around it: choosing a plan and hardware, building your setup, training staff and answering questions afterward. We don’t claim a special Square partner tier, discounts or exclusive pricing, and your account is held by Square. We still sell other systems, so we can point you elsewhere when Square isn’t the best fit.
Who sets my Square rates and approves my account?
Square does. Your plan fee and processing rates are Square’s, either its published pricing or custom pricing Square may offer businesses processing more than $250,000 a year. Square also approves accounts, sends payouts and manages disputes. We handle everything around the account, from setup to training.
Can I get Square set up in person near me in Texas?
If you’re in Dallas / Ft. Worth, yes: we come to you for on-site installation and staff training. Anywhere else in Texas, a live specialist sets up Square with you remotely, from your item library and tax settings to device pairing and training. Check our service areas or call (214) 838-1818 to get on the schedule.
Do I need new hardware to start with Square?
Not always. Tap to Pay takes contactless payments on an iPhone XS or newer running iOS 15.5 or later, or on most NFC-equipped Android phones running Android 9 or later, with no reader. Per Square’s published prices, checked October 2026, the contactless and chip reader is $59 and Square Register is $899. We’ll match the hardware to how you sell; our Square hardware guide covers each device.
Does Square require a contract?
No. Square advertises no locked-in contracts, says you can cancel or switch plans anytime, and lists no early termination fee. Square Plus and Premium come with a 30-day free trial, and a downgrade takes effect at your next billing cycle. Hardware is separate; if you finance it through Square, that credit plan is issued by Block, Inc., subject to credit approval, at a 15% APR per Square’s published terms (checked October 2026).
I already use Square. Can Lone Star Payments still help?
Yes. We can rebuild a messy item library or menu, set up modifiers, taxes and tipping, configure new devices or locations, and train new staff. We can also run a free cost review to check whether your plan still fits your volume or another option would cost less. Call (214) 838-1818 to start.
Want Square Set Up The Right Way?
